10 002 hits later, Darren finally gets his sweater

Blogger tells me I've reached 10 000 pageviews - 10 002 to be exact. To be fair, a good third of those are probably just me checking that the html isn't borked, but I stilI feel this is occasion to celebrate - with a few more blurry photos! Hooray!!

IKEA girl 2
I made Lottie a pair of pants while I was at it. She fit right in with the IKEA furniture. And of course the surplus dye gave her a few faint pink stains, not too bad but still annoying.

So I made her a pair of white socks instead. No proper hem at the top yet because I'm lazy. I'm amazed they fit in the shoes (they're from same cheap white t-shirt I used for her top).

You'd be frowning too if you were wearing that.

Remember Darren, the Triad Omega guy? Remember his sweater that I started about, oh, 18 months ago? Well, yesterday I was on a roll and decided to finally finish it. Still not entirely happy with how the v-neck turned out, and I'm not sure why I made it quite so big. I must have learned something from all the doll clothes I've sewn since, though: those final seems were a lot easier than I remember the rest of it was! Progress: hard to see, but probably happening anyway.

V-neck: a bit lumpy, but finished

Also, the Momoko boots I ordered arrived yesterday. They're not the legendary Doc Martens, but still a really nice pair of doll shoes. I read somewhere Momoko dolls have big feet, so I thought the shoes might fit the Simba Super Model girls. A pair of heels might have been trickier, but the boots fit perfectly.

left: Jun Shibuki (uses a SAJ body by Takara) wearing those blue OHC boots, right: Super Model Miri wearing the Momoko boots.

I like the realistic design of these boots, and I'd like to get more for the "bigfoot girls" if I can find them at a good price (these were used from Mandarake.co.jp).

One thing I'm a bit worried about is the split in the back doesn't end in a round punched hole like it should, it's just sort of printed in the plastic. I should do something about that, but I'm not sure I could make a perfect circle with a hobby knife. A heated needle, maybe?

    1. Lottie is the only one small enough, so she gets all the IKEA stuff to herself. :) The momoko boots are great! I should have gotten a pair long ago but they're usually so expensive.

  2. I like those boots! Maybe you could do a tutorial on making T-shirts for us? Please tell me why the boots need that little hole. Does it make them fit a little better or go on better?

    1. Haha, I'm not quiiiiite ready to start teaching other people yet! I'm sure there are a billion excellent t-shirt tutorials out there already. The holes are to prevent the split from accidentally splitting even more. It spreads out the stress more evenly in the material or something.

  3. Those boots look great. If you think they need a hole, you are right - a heated needle should do the trick. You might find it easier to use a thicker needle, like a wool needle. Lottie's socks look fine even without a hem. Great to see you are on a roll and finishing things.

    1. Thanks, I tried it and a large blunt needle works best.
Better finish those socks right away, or it might take another 18 months... :D

  4. Cool sweater, I wouldn't have guessed it's handmade! The boots absolutely rock. Congrats on the pageviews milestone! If you click on pageviews on your dashboard, it will take you to that page with statistics and on the right side you'll see this blue sentence "Don't track your own pageviews", click it. I, too, gave myself about 30 until I found it :)

    1. Thanks, but remember that's a carefully chosen flattering angle... :) I know about the not-tracking-yourself option, but for some reason it doesn't work on the phone.

  5. Congratulations on your 10,000+ hits! I like all of the clothes you've made here, the boots, and the Ikea furniture. My mother-in-law gave me a sewing machine, but I have yet to attempt to make any article of clothing for my dolls, and I have some dolls that REALLY need some clothing options.

    1. Thank you! I have a sewing machine, but I rarely use it since Barbie clothes are so tiny. Sewing by hand is actually easier, you should definitely give it a try and give your dolls a bigger wardrobe!

  6. I love the red print pants and the red plaid kilt on Lottie. She's so incredibly cute. Glad that she gets to keep the IKEA furniture.

I blinked at the thought of Momoko having "big feet." Then again, compared to tippy-toed Barbies and Smartees and some other small-footed dolls, I suppose she would be. Hmmmm ....

I think that Darren looks pleased to wear his new sweater. It might be a little loose on him, but he doesn't need to have it skin tight. He's probably frowning 'cause he's a Triad guy: most of the Triad figures have perpetual scowls.

Congrats on the pageview ranking AND on completing your fashions!

(I think I hear Lottie and Darren cheering in the background.)

P.S. I'm curious ... who is the Jun Shibuki doll? I don't recognize the doll, but she looks interesting ;-) Thanks in advance for your response.

    1. Thanks, and yes, Lottie has claimed all the IKEA stuff! I haven't seen Momoko irl but I think you're right. "Realistically proportioned feet" is probably a better word for it. Darren has a very nice Triad suit to wear so I think he can deal with something less well-tailored for a change. :)

I forgot to introduce the Jun Shibuki doll, but she's a Takarazuka Revue celebrity doll. She's made by Takara so she has the Super Action Jenny body, plus a unique headmold (afaik anyway). I'll write a bit more about her tomorrow.
